Desktop application development for Windows and macOS

We develop desktop applications for Windows, macOS and Linux: software that works offline, handles local files and devices, and replaces Excel sheets or Access databases. Delivered with an installer and automatic updates.

Services

Programs that run on your team's computers

Some jobs don't belong in a browser: driving a label printer, processing large files locally, carrying on without internet. For those, we build desktop applications with Tauri or Electron that run on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Windows, macOS & Linux from one codebase

We build the interface with Vue and TypeScript and package it with Tauri or Electron as a standalone program for each operating system. Tauri produces lean installers, while Electron makes sense when you need a wide range of existing Node.js libraries. We choose based on your requirements.

Replacing Excel, Access & legacy applications

The macro-laden spreadsheet only one colleague understands. The Access database whose developer left years ago. We migrate the data, map the workflows properly and add what was missing, such as user permissions or a change log.

Offline use, local files, printers & hardware

The application keeps working without internet and syncs once the connection is back. It reads and writes files on the computer or network drive and prints to label or receipt printers. We connect scales, scanners or measuring devices via USB or serial port, provided the manufacturer documents how to control them.

Connections to servers, ERP & APIs

The application pulls master data from your ERP, writes bookings back or talks to a server of its own, so several workstations share the same data. We use existing interfaces and build missing ones ourselves.

Installer, code signing & automatic updates

Your staff install the software with a double click. Signed packages identify the publisher, while macOS blocks software that is not signed and notarized by default. New versions install themselves, so nobody has to carry a USB stick around the office.

Maintenance & further development

New operating system versions and changed ERP interfaces affect every piece of software in use. We keep dependencies up to date, close security gaps and build new features when your workflows change.

Process

How your desktop application comes together

We start by looking at how your team works today, including the spreadsheets and workarounds nobody usually shows.

01

Conversation & requirements

We look at which files, devices and systems your team works with today and who needs access to what. From this, we define the scope of the first version. Then you receive a written offer.

02

Clickable prototype & user flow

A clickable draft shows the key screens and workflows. The people who will use it every day test it first, because they spot clumsy steps faster than any meeting does.

03

Development with test builds

We build in short iterations and deliver installable test versions regularly. Your team works with them on a copy of real data and reports what is missing or gets in the way.

04

Rollout & maintenance

We migrate existing data, provide the signed release for installation and support the first weeks in daily use. After that, we look after updates, bug fixes and new features.

Questions about desktop applications

How much does it cost to have a desktop application developed?

The effort depends mainly on the number of screens and workflows, migrating data from legacy systems and connecting hardware or an ERP. A tool that converts files locally is a manageable job. A multi-user application with a server and permission management takes considerably more. You receive a written offer once we have gathered your requirements.

Can you replace our Excel or Access solution?

Yes. We first work through the existing file, because formulas, macros and queries often contain business rules that are written down nowhere else. We move the data into a proper database, and the new application maps the workflows so several people can work at the same time. If accounting still needs an Excel export, we keep it.

Why desktop software rather than a web application?

If the software has to run without internet, access printers, scanners or measuring devices directly, or process large files locally, a desktop application is the better choice. For tools that are mainly shared across a team and opened from anywhere, we would rather recommend a web application. We build both on the same technology, so parts can move from one form to the other later.

Does the application run on Windows, macOS and Linux?

Yes, from a single codebase. Tauri and Electron produce a separate installer for each system. We catch differences in file paths, print dialogs or keyboard shortcuts by testing on every target platform. If you only need Windows, the testing effort for the others falls away.

How do updates reach the workstations?

The application checks for a new version at startup and installs it after asking the user. If your IT department prefers to distribute software centrally, we provide installation packages for your software deployment tool and switch off automatic updates.
